“A vision of fire” engrosses you from the action packed start. From the start there is an assassination attempt on an ambassador, he and his daughter survive, but immediately after his daughter Maanik suffers terrible visions.
Maanik falls into a fugue state and no one is sure if it is post traumatic stress or demonic possession. Caitlin O’Hara is called in to see if she can solve the mystery.
I really liked Caitlin, I thought she shared many of the finer qualities with Dana Scully from the X-files: stoic professionalism, a brilliant mind and a wonderful empathy. Caitlin is a wonderful three dimensional character that has to balance, family, work and a personal life – some days she wins and others, she struggles just like the rest of us.
“A vision of fire” is a great start to a new series, and this book is the build up- with clues, to one hell of a story. The only bad thing I could say about this book, is the long wait until the next instalment.
